#12 Mecklenburg Bay 2021
5-day sailing trip on the Baltic Sea
Start: Grossenbrode
On Sunday, August 29, 2021, the sailing crew led by skipper Wilfried Bielefeld set off from Großenbrode for a 5-day cruise on the Baltic Sea. The crew consisted of Wilfried, Jörg, Björn, Otto, Ralph and Christian.
Day 1: Großenbrode - Kühlungsborn
The first leg went from Großenbrode to Kühlungsborn. The route was relatively short at around 30 nautical miles, so the crew had time to get used to the ship and the crew. The weather was sunny and windy, so the sails could be hoisted.
Day 2: Kühlungsborn - Timmendorf
On the second day, we continued on to Timmendorf on the island of Poel. The route was a little longer at around 40 nautical miles, but the crew had gotten the hang of it by now. The weather remained sunny and windy. The crew liked it there so much that they decided to spend a day in port there.
Highlight: Soko Wismar
An episode of the ZDF series Soko Wismar was being filmed in Timmendorf at the time. The crew was able to watch the filming up close and even act as extras. It was very exciting to see how much effort was put into such a short scene.
Day 3: Timmendorf - Burkstaaken
On the third day we continued to Burkstaaken. The route was a little shorter at around 35 nautical miles. The weather was sunny and windy, so the crew could hoist the sails again.
Day 4: Burkstaaken - Großenbrode
On the fourth and final day, we headed back to Großenbrode. The route was again relatively short, around 25 nautical miles. The weather was sunny and windy, so the crew was able to hoist the sails again.
Highlight: Flagpole demolished
Unfortunately, there was an incident at the last mooring in Großenbrode. The flagpole was torn down when entering the box. Luckily, the charter company had enough new masts as a reserve.
The trigger was a misunderstanding with the harbor master. He had assigned the crew a box that was too narrow. Despite the crew's concerns, he insisted on this. As a result, the Muttland got stuck between the dolphins and the flagpole was torn down.
Conclusion
The crew had an eventful and beautiful trip. The weather was perfect, the sailing conditions were good and the crew was harmonious.
