On the way

From: Duncan Wells My companion on every voyage. In case a maneuver doesn't go as planned, I like to have this book at hand. Also useful for refreshing yourself on the go. From the book spine: RELAXED FROM THE START Docking and undocking, setting, trimming, reefing and furling sails, steering, navigating, anchoring – there's plenty to do on a sailboat. What can be distributed among several people on a large yacht with a large crew has to be done by a small crew all by themsel

The more technology is installed on a modern sailing yacht, the more difficult it becomes to keep track of everything. Engine, power supply, heating, water, navigation, communication, and safety each come with their own documentation and maintenance intervals. That's why we've started a new project: the Viserion Boat Manager . The idea We want to create a central digital platform that knows exactly which components are installed on our SY Viserion and when they need to be ser

After many months of planning, countless decisions and great anticipation, the time had finally come: Our SY Viserion is finished. The factory acceptance at Sirius Yachts was far more than a formal handover for me. It marked the end of the construction phase and, at the same time, the beginning of a new chapter. For the first time, the ship stood before me fully equipped – exactly as I had envisioned it for years. First impressions Even upon entering the shipyard hall, it was

Work on SY Viserion is progressing rapidly – and this time there are particularly exciting insights into the manufacturing process. The hull is deep into structural work, the carpentry shop is operating at full capacity, and the gleaming stainless steel parts are appearing on deck for the first time. A true milestone on the way to launch. 1. Structure in the hull – millimeter work below deck Laser lines, frames, longitudinal stringers: The interior of the hull is currently be

This weekend I completed the "Medicine on Board" course at the Sailing Island sailing school – a topic that one might like to tick off theoretically, but which takes on a completely different dimension on a long voyage. Especially considering our voyages with the SY Viserion and the planned Atlantic and long-distance sailing projects, one thing is clear: offshore, there is no ambulance. No hospital. No quick help. There is only you, your crew – and your knowledge. Why this co

Mandatory: no, recommended: yes – especially on long journeys** Anyone who delves deeper into the topic of long-distance sailing or even circumnavigating the globe will sooner or later encounter a seemingly simple question: 👉 Do you need a boat stamp? Is a boat stamp merely a nostalgic seafaring tradition or a useful tool for everyday life on board and for dealing with bureaucracy while traveling? The short answer is: No, it's not mandatory. But yes – it's highly recommended

Building a yacht is a process consisting of many individual steps, often invisible from the outside. In the last few days, I've received a whole series of new pictures from the shipyard, and they impressively show how far the construction of my Sirius DS 40 – Viserion has progressed. What was just a combination of designs, drawings, and discussions months ago is now gradually becoming reality. The latest photos give a good sense of how many trades are working on the boat simu

Since I started sailing regularly, countless digital helpers have accumulated on my smartphone and iPad. Some are purely weather or navigation tools, others help with planning, logging, or relaxing after a long day of sailing. In this post, I'll introduce you to the apps that I actually use regularly on board the SY Viserion – from the start of the trip to arrival in port. It gets even more exciting when you combine them : Many apps complement each other perfectly. Theref

At the beginning of September, we spent a week cruising the Baltic Sea on our Momo (Bavaria Cruiser 46). The starting and finishing point was the Heiligenhafen Marina. From there, the cruise took us around Langeland with stops in Bagenkop, Omø, Nyborg, Marstal, and Orth on Fehmarn. A very special experience: Along the way, we encountered two yachts that have played a significant role in my personal sailing history – the Coco in Bagenkop (my SKS cruise in 2016 ) and the Veroni
