#15 Ionian Sea 2022

Sailing trip in the Ionian Sea 2022

Foreword

In autumn 2022, we, Christian, Otto, Jan, Mathias, Tobias, Nils and Thomas, had the opportunity to go on a sailing trip in the Ionian Sea. We were an experienced crew who had sailed together many times. Our goal was to experience the beauty of the Greek islands and have a little fun along the way.

Day 1: Lefkas - Ormos Sivota

On Sunday morning, October 9, 2022, we started our journey from Lefkas. The weather was perfect, with sunshine and a light wind. After about two hours we reached Ormos Sivota, a small bay with a picturesque harbor. We anchored there and spent the rest of the day swimming, snorkeling and eating.

Day 2: Ormos Sivota - Fiskardo

The next day we sailed from Ormos Sivota to Fiskardo, one of the most beautiful towns on Kefalonia. The crossing took about three hours. In Fiskardo we anchored in the harbor and strolled through the winding streets of the old town. In the evening we ate in a traditional Greek restaurant.

Day 3: Fiskardo - Ormos Ayios Evefemias

On Tuesday we continued to Ormos Ayios Evefemias, a small bay on Ithaca. The crossing took about two hours. In Ormos Ayios Evefemias we anchored in a quiet bay and spent the day sunbathing and swimming.

Day 4: Ormos Ayios Evefemias - Kalamos

On Wednesday we sailed from Ormos Ayios Evefemias to Kalamos, an island in the northwest Ionian Sea. The crossing took about five hours. In Kalamos we anchored in the harbor and made our way into the town. There we strolled through the alleys, visited a small market and ate in a restaurant overlooking the sea.

Day 5: Kalamos - Lefkas

On Thursday we decided to head back. The crossing to Lefkas took about three hours. In Lefkas we anchored in the harbor and prepared for the journey home.

Highlights

  • The crossing from Ormos Sivota to Fiskardo was particularly beautiful. We had a great view of the coast of Kefalonia.

  • In Fiskardo we found a very nice restaurant where we ate excellent food.

  • The bay of Ormos Ayios Evefemias was perfect for a day of swimming. The water was crystal clear and there were lots of fish to see.

  • We had a small incident in Kalamos. During the night our anchor didn't hold and we hit the boat next to us. Luckily, everything turned out well.

Conclusion

We had a great sailing trip in the Ionian Sea. The Greek islands are beautiful and the people are very friendly. We gained a lot of new impressions and had a lot of fun.
