# 19 Our autumn cruise on the Baltic Sea: From Rostock to Copenhagen

Updated: Oct 20

In autumn 2024 we took an unforgettable sailing trip from Rostock to Copenhagen and back with our ship, the *Thor*. The anticipation was great when we set sail from the Hohe Düne marina into the Bay of Mecklenburg on Sunday, September 1st. The sun was smiling at us and the wind was blowing from the east at 10 to 26 knots - perfect conditions for our north-south trip.

The journey begins: Rostock Hohe Düne

Rostock Hohe Düne, where we picked up our charter boat, is known for its idyllic location and the old river. Here, seafaring meets maritime flair and we were warmly welcomed by the charm of the surroundings. The port offers excellent infrastructure, and while we made the final preparations and checked the ship for seaworthiness, we enjoyed the view of the arriving ships and the untouched nature.

At 08:54 on Sunday we finally set sail and turned off the engine. Our journey began!

Gedser: The gateway to Denmark

After a relaxing day of sailing, we docked at Gedser marina at around 4:03 p.m. Gedser, Denmark's southernmost town, is known for its charming little harbor and the friendly atmosphere that immediately welcomed us. Beautiful boats rocking in the wind and the picturesque surroundings made this stop a highlight. While strolling through the harbor, we explored the local café and enjoyed the culinary specialties (it was grilled :-) ).

Klintholm: Coastal magic

On Monday we continued our journey and landed in the port of Klintholm. This small port town is surrounded by impressive cliffs and offers breathtaking views of the sea. After another day at sea, we docked in the evening and experienced a wonderful sunset behind the cliffs while we recovered from the exertions of sailing and reflected on the day.

Copenhagen: A port full of life

One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Copenhagen. On Tuesday, September 3rd, we docked in Christianshavn - just a stone's throw from the impressive city center. Copenhagen has a unique flair, characterized by its canals, colorful houses and lively atmosphere. We spent the night there and explored the city in the evening. The canals were the perfect place to experience the city from a different perspective. We were amazed at the combination of historical architecture and modern lifestyle. The visit to Nyhavn with its historic sailing ships and brightly painted houses left a lasting impression.

Rödvig: A hidden harbor

Undoubtedly, our stop in Rödvig was one of the hidden gems. This port is lesser known, but it offers a peaceful environment with small fishing boats and a charming waterfront. Here we immersed ourselves in interesting conversations with local sailors over a beer in the local pub. Rödvig is a perfect place to relax after a long day of sailing and enjoy the warm hospitality of the Danes.

Return journey: One last adventure

On Thursday we set off to sail back to Gedser and finally to Rostock Hohe Düne. The whole trip filled us with countless memories and adventures, filled with laughter, conversations and the breathtaking beauty of the Baltic Sea. Finally on Friday, September 6th, we docked at the Hohe Düne marina at around 3:21 p.m. after a long but fulfilling journey.

In summary, this trip was not only a unique opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Baltic Sea, but also to deepen our bonds as a crew and our love for sailing. We can't wait to see where the sea will take us next!
