During the week of May 17-23, we had the pleasure of sailing the Sun Odyssey 440, affectionately known as "Sweet Dreams," from Pitter Yachting in the picturesque Bay of Marinella, Sardinia. This adventure took us to some of the region's most impressive locations and offered a perfect blend of sailing, nature, and culinary delights.

Day 1: From Marinella to the island of Cavallo
On the first day, we set sail for the small but stunning island of Cavallo off the coast of Corsica. The wind blew steadily from the west at speeds between 10 and 17 knots, which carried us along quickly. The turquoise waters of the bay where we anchored that evening were truly a dream and made our hearts race.

Cavallo is known for its unspoiled nature and tranquil atmosphere. The island, part of the Lavezzi Archipelago, boasts rich flora and fauna. Sailors appreciate the sheltered bays and the opportunity to anchor in one of the few undeveloped areas in the Mediterranean.
Day 2: Bonifacio – A historical jewel
On the second day, we anchored around 9:15 a.m. to set a course for the impressive town of Bonifacio, just 8 nautical miles away. The passage through the steep cliffs was exhilarating and offered spectacular views. Bonifacio is known not only for its dramatic location but also for its rich history dating back to ancient times. Founded in the 9th century, the town is famous for its towering limestone cliffs and well-preserved old town.

Docking in the city harbor was a bit of an adventure, as the wind had gusted up to 25 knots. Luckily, the friendly marineros helped us out, guiding us into the right position with their dinghy. After a short walk into the old town, we enjoyed a delicious dinner with plenty of wine – a perfect end to an exciting day.
Day 3: Santa Teresa Gallura and the Strait of Bonifacio
On the third day, we sailed across the Strait of Bonifacio toward Santa Teresa Gallura, where we picked up another crew member in the dinghy. The Strait of Bonifacio is known for its strong currents and winds, which present exciting challenges for sailors. In the afternoon, we had the opportunity to sail this area with fun and speed before anchoring in the beautiful Liscia Bay in the evening.

Day 4: The nature reserve of La Maddalena
The next day took us to the famous La Maddalena nature reserve, known for its breathtaking bays and unspoiled nature. Although overnight anchorage is now prohibited, we were able to moor in the main harbor of Maddalena. There, we took the opportunity for a photoshoot and strolled through the charming alleys before enjoying a delicious dinner on the pier in the evening.

La Maddalena is not only a popular destination for sailors, but also a place with a fascinating history. Once strategic military bases, the islands are now a popular tourist destination that combines natural beauty with historical charm.
Day 5: Salina Bamba Bay
The following day, we set sail at 8:15 a.m., heading south, with a pleasant northwest wind of 15 knots. In the afternoon, we dropped anchor in the idyllic bay of Salina Bamba, where we took a refreshing dip in the clear waters.

An evening dinghy trip to the beach gave us the opportunity to enjoy a magical walk at sunset.
Day 6: Return to Marinella
On the last day, we set a northerly course again to return to our base in Marinella in time. Due to the wind blowing against us and the fact that it later died down completely, we had to motor from midday onwards to arrive on time. We finally docked at our home marina at 4:45 p.m.

Conclusion: An unforgettable sailing adventure
Our cruise was simply wonderful. The new crew members integrated perfectly, and no one got seasick. We had fantastic weather, with only a brief rain shower one evening. Except for the last day, we experienced excellent wind conditions for sailing. We enjoyed a perfect blend of nature and culture and are sure we'll return to explore these impressive places again.
